City services during potential Canada Post work stoppage

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg would like to advise citizens and businesses of changes to City services in the event of a Canada Post work stoppage.

Citizens are advised to call 311 for information on how City services that normally use Canada Post will operate in the event of a work stoppage.

Citizens are reminded that property tax bills are still due by the deadline. The deadline for paying 2016 Property Taxes is Thursday, June 30, 2016.

Elmwood Kildonans Pool temporarily closed due to fire

Winnipeg, MB - The public is advised that the Elmwood Kildonans Pool is temporarily closed today until further notice due to a fire in the pool's basement. Affected pool user groups will be contacted.

City staff is assessing the situation to determine when the facility will be safe for the public to re-enter. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Street closures in effect for Osborne Village Canada Day celebrations

Winnipeg, MB - Osborne Street from River Avenue to McMillan Avenue at Confusion Corner will be closed to traffic from 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30 until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 3 for the Osborne Village Street Festival.

Stradbrook Avenue, Wardlaw Avenue and Gertrude Avenue will also be closed between Nassau Street and Scott Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Motorists are reminded to allow additional travel time and to use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

Winnipeg, MB - Southbound St. John Ambulance Way from Eastway exiting onto eastbound Portage Avenue will be temporarily closed to vehicles starting at noon on Sunday, June 26 for a watermain renewal project. It is anticipated the roadway will be reopened on Saturday, July 2.

Motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes when traveling in this vicinity.

Citizens invited to open house on plans for the Transcona Outdoor Aquatic Park

Winnipeg, MB - Citizens are invited to attend a public open house to view the plans for the Transcona Outdoor Aquatic Park which include a new outdoor pool and spray pad.

City staff will be on hand to provide information on:

  • Current and future plans
  • Timelines for the reopening of the outdoor pool and spray pad
  • Timelines for the opening of the Park City West spray pad
  • Enhanced recreation and aquatic programming

City awards renovation grants to 14 community centres

Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Brian Bowman announced today that 14 City-owned community centres will receive funding for renovations.

The Community Centre Renovation Grant Program (CCRG) approved 14 applications from the Spring 2016 intake period for a combined total of $609,494 in grant funding. Since the program’s inception, the City of Winnipeg has invested $4,244,034 into 111 different community centre applications for renovations across the city.

Libraries kick-off TD Summer Reading Club

Winnipeg, MB - Registration for the annual TD Summer Reading Club has begun at all Winnipeg Public Library branches. Children up to age 12 are invited to drop by any branch of the library to register and to pick up their free reading kit that includes activities and a log to track time spent reading.
