Say hello to peggo!

Winnipeg, MB - Beginning Monday, August 8, Winnipeg Transit's reloadable peggo card will be available for full and youth fare passengers to purchase and start using, in addition to seniors.

Full fare, youth and senior peggo cards can be purchased in person at 97 locations across the City. These include all 7-Eleven and Shoppers Drug Mart stores as well as 18 other independent and City of Winnipeg outlets. Cards are also available for purchase online at WinnipegTransit.com or by calling 311.

Harry Lazarenko Bridge closed August 5 - 8

Winnipeg, MB - The Harry Lazarenko Bridge (the former Redwood Bridge) between Main Street and Glenwood Crescent will be completely closed to traffic from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5 until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8 for a private water service project. While the bridge is closed, City crews will also conduct some routine maintenance and inspections. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the north sidewalk.

Update on gas leak at Keewatin Street and Paramount Road

Winnipeg, MB - Today, WFPS and WPS responded to a natural gas leak at the intersection of Keewatin Street and Paramount Road. At approximately 10:00 am, a private contractor broke the gas line during construction work being conducted near the intersection. No injuries were reported.

WFPS has advised that the gas leak has now been shut off. The evacuation order has been lifted, and area residents can return to their homes.

Initially, approximately 200 residents were evacuated from the area. The evacuation area included the following streets:

Ferry Road between Silver Avenue and Ness Avenue closed August 5 - 8

Winnipeg, MB - Ferry Road between Silver Avenue and Ness Avenue will be completely closed to traffic from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5 to 6:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8 for a water and sewer project.

Motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time and to use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

Newly-rehabilitated water feeder main returns to full service this week

Winnipeg, MB - Beginning at 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 2 and continuing until Thursday, August 4 at 8:00 a.m., a newly-rehabilitated major water feeder main that crosses the Red River near the Chief Peguis Trail will be returned to full service. While discoloured water is not expected as a result of the work, citizens in the East Kildonan, North Kildonan, West Kildonan and Garden City areas are encouraged to check for discoloured water before using their water during this time.

Bonnycastle Park selected as Winnipeg's Downtown off-leash dog park site

Winnipeg, MB - A portion of Bonnycastle Park on Assiniboine Avenue has been selected as the site for Winnipeg’s Downtown off-leash dog park.

“The selection of Bonnycastle Park brings us one step closer to the fulfillment of my commitment to open a fenced in, off-leash dog park in Downtown Winnipeg,” Mayor Brian Bowman said. “It’s exciting to see the amenities in Downtown Winnipeg beginning to take shape and resemble other areas of Winnipeg. This is a major step towards that goal and the continued revitalization of our Downtown.”

Winnipeggers invited to take advantage of the Winnipeg ReLeaf Program

Winnipeg, MB - This year, up to 700 Winnipeg property owners can participate in the Winnipeg ReLeaf program which is designed to provide Winnipeg homeowners with quality, affordable trees for their property. For just $55 each, homeowners receive the tree collection(s) of their choice, along with all the supplies and support they need to give their new trees a healthy start.
