Paving operations to affect traffic at the intersection of Lagimodiere Boulevard and Grassie Boulevard this weekend

Winnipeg, MB - Starting this Saturday at 6 a.m., the intersection of Lagimodiere Boulevard and Grassie Boulevard will undergo paving work. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Lagimodiere Boulevard through the intersection. All left turns will be restricted.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic on Grassie Boulevard will be required to turn right at the intersection and no through traffic will be permitted on Grassie Boulevard while this work is underway.

Recipients of Mayor's Scholarship for Community Leadership Announced

Winnipeg, MB - Five recipients were awarded the Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership by Mayor Brian Bowman at a ceremony today at City Hall.

Each of the five scholarship winners will receive a one thousand dollar scholarship in recognition of their consistent and outstanding dedication to making their community a better place to live and by solving community problems.

Memorial Boulevard and a portion of Broadway temporarily closed for Collector Car Appreciation Day this Friday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Memorial Boulevard from York Avenue to Broadway will be temporarily closed this Friday, July 14 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. for Collector Car Appreciation Day. Beginning at 6 p.m., westbound Broadway from Kennedy Street to Osborne Street will also be closed.

Pedestrian access will be maintained on the east sidewalk. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

Temporary closure of off-ramp from eastbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard to southbound Pembina Highway

Winnipeg, MB - The public is advised that the off-ramp from eastbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard to southbound Pembina Highway will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic from Friday, July 14 at 8 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 16 for ongoing construction for the Southwest Rapid Transitway (Stage 2) overpass structure.

Pedestrian sidewalk access will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.

City teams up with University of Winnipeg for Dutch elm disease research

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg's Urban Forestry Branch is collaborating with The University of Winnipeg on a research project to identify and prioritize the early removal of brood trees. Brood trees are trees that the female elm bark beetle uses to lay eggs and establish her brood (a new generation of beetles). These brood trees represent the small percentage of diseased elm trees that host the majority of elm bark beetle brood. The goal is to develop a simple, cost efficient and quick sampling technique to help prioritize trees for rapid removal.

Complete Closure of Ellice Avenue from Smith Street to Donald Street

Winnipeg, MB - Ellice Avenue between Smith Street and Donald Street will be completely closed to vehicular traffic starting this Saturday, July 8 at 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 9. The closure is required for water main renewal work.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

Improvements in the Northeast Exchange District continue to revitalize Downtown Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers and visitors to our city alike can now fully enjoy many improvements made in recent years to the Northeast Exchange District. A multi-year renewal program has breathed new life into this historic part of Winnipeg east of Main Street with extensive improvements made to Elgin Avenue, Market Avenue, Pacific Avenue, Bertha Street, Rorie Street, Lily Street and John Hirsch Place.

Public invited to provide feedback on the Eastern Corridor Rapid Transit Study

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is extending the Eastern Corridor Study public engagement process into the summer to continue to learn about Winnipeggers’ priorities for rapid transit. Online mapping and criteria selection tools will remain open until the end of July, and the study team will be hosting pop-up engagement opportunities at community events in the study area to gain additional public input in this process.

City Hall Council Building Renovations Coming to a Conclusion

Winnipeg, MB - Renovation work on the Council Building at City Hall is coming to a conclusion. Councillors and their staff returned to the building earlier this week, and the Mayor and his staff will be returning to the building by the end of July 2017.

The Council Building is over 50 years old and was designated a heritage building in January of 2015. A Crosier Kilgour report, which was originally completed in 2002 and was updated in 2012, identified a number of concerns in the building which needed to be mitigated.
