Winnipeggers invited to public information session on Rue des Trappistes culvert replacement and road reconstruction

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public information session on the replacement of a culvert and road reconstruction on Rue des Trappistes on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

The culvert at Rue des Trappistes and Westendorf Coulee needs to be replaced as it is at the end of its service life, and is partially collapsed in several locations. A preliminary design study was completed in 2016, and the project is now moving ahead with construction.

Completely signalized intersection activated at Jefferson Avenue and Sinclair Street in Old Kildonan Ward

Winnipeg, MB – A completely signalized intersection has been installed and activated at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Sinclair Street. The new traffic signals will accommodate four directions of vehicular traffic and four pedestrian crossings. Included in the project are audible pedestrian signals, countdown timers, a cellular modem for real-time connection to the City’s Transportation Management Center, and tactile yellow pads at each crossing. The cost for the project is approximately $205,000.

Eastbound St. Mary Avenue will be closed between Good Street and Colony Street Tuesday evening

Winnipeg, MB – Eastbound St. Mary Avenue will be closed between Good Street and Colony Street starting this Tuesday, September 12 at 6 p.m., until 6 a.m. on Wednesday September 13, for Bell MTS work.

Pedestrian access will be maintained and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

City Releases 2017 Second Quarter Financial Update

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s second quarter Financial Status Report cites a year-end projected deficit in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) totalling $8.2 million as at June 30, 2017 before using deficit elimination measures, and represents a $5.4 million improvement over first quarter projections. The year-end deficit is due largely to a transfer to Winnipeg Transit.

Public invited to Candlelight Service commemorating Canada 150

Winnipeg, MB – Members of the public are invited to attend a Candlelight Service on Sunday, September 10 at 7 p.m. in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue to commemorate Canada's 150th anniversary and honour those who have served in times of war and peace.

Northbound Sturgeon Road between Ness Avenue and Murray Park Road will be closed to traffic Sept 11 - 18

Winnipeg, MB – Northbound Sturgeon Road between Ness Avenue and Murray Park Road will be closed for streets maintenance work from 9 a.m. on September 11 until 3 p.m. on September 18.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, and motorists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.

Recycling, garbage and yard waste collection day schedules changing for some residents as of October 1

Winnipeg, MB – Starting October 1, 2017, the City of Winnipeg is adjusting recycling, garbage and yard waste collection days for some residents, to make the cart collection system more efficient. The changes are related to a new seven-year collection contract.

This change in collection contracts will require adjustments to the collection day schedule for 59% of customers. All cart collection customers will receive a notice by direct mail starting the week of September 18 confirming their collection day.

Upcoming temporary road closure for Sherbrook Street Festival between Wolseley Avenue and Westminster Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – Sherbrook Street from Wolseley Avenue to Westminster Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic this Saturday, September 9 from 7 a.m. until Sunday, September 10 at 1 a.m. for the Sherbrook Street Festival.

Pedestrian access on Sherbrook Street will be maintained.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

King Street will be temporarily closed this weekend between James Avenue and Alexander Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – King Street between James Avenue and Alexander Avenue will be temporarily closed starting this Saturday, September 9 at 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 10 for the Chinatown Street Festival.

Pedestrian access will be maintained and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.
