Winnipeg, MB – City of Winnipeg cemeteries visiting hours are set to change as of October 16, 2017 for the fall and winter months. The change in hours applies to all three City cemeteries - Brookside, St. Vital, and Transcona.

City releases August 2017 financial update

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg's latest Financial Status Report cites a year-end projected surplus in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) of $1 million as at August 31, 2017, and represents a $9.2 million improvement over second quarter projections. The projected positive year-end variance is due largely to Council approved savings options for Winnipeg Transit. Based on the projected surplus, no additional transfer from the Financial Stabilization Reserve Fund is anticipated at this time.

Reminder - Citizens encouraged to get involved on Boards and Commissions

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg will be accepting applications for positions on various Boards and Commissions from August 1, 2017 to October 20, 2017.

The City Clerk’s Department initiates an annual selection process to fill citizen member positions to Boards and Commissions on which there are imminent or existing vacancies.

Applications are now being accepted to fill vacancies on the following boards:

New Crescent Drive Park canoe and kayak launch officially opens

Winnipeg, MB – At an event this morning, Councillor Jenny Gerbasi and Crescent Park Rescue officially opened the new Crescent Drive Park canoe and kayak launch site, located at 781 Crescent Drive.

“By increasing river access this project encourages active transportation and recreational use of our rivers,” said Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton. “Supporting local infrastructure that builds active and healthy communities makes our province a better place to live, work and play.”

Winnipeg, MB – All civic offices are closed on Monday, October 9, 2017.

City asks residents for assistance in locating suitable Christmas tree for City Hall

Winnipeg, MB – Officials from the City of Winnipeg's Public Works Department are asking Winnipeg homeowners with large spruce trees to contact them if they are interested in donating their tree for City Hall's annual Christmas tree display.

The City received information about a number of potential Christmas tree candidates for this year’s holiday display, but none have met the criteria.

To be considered for the City Hall Christmas tree, a spruce tree must meet the following criteria:

Public invited to view Taché Promenade design

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public information session to review the proposed detailed design of the Taché Promenade project on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. The project will improve public spaces and the riverfront area along Taché Avenue between Provencher Boulevard and Despins Street, and will feature a widened promenade-style walkway and pedestrian belvedere, commonly known as a lookout, elevated above the riverbank that incorporates public art.
