Mayor Submits Priorities for 2018 Provincial Budget

Winnipeg, MB – Rehabilitating regional roads, investing in public transit, and committing to a long-term predictable infrastructure program were key Winnipeg priorities Mayor Brian Bowman identified in response to the Province of Manitoba's invitation to provide input on their 2018 provincial budget.

Salting of Priority 1 streets and truck plowing of Priority 2 streets beginning this morning

Winnipeg, MB – In response to yesterday’s snowfall, City crews will begin salting Priority 1 streets this morning followed by a truck plow later today. A truck plow with loaders on Priority 2 streets will begin this morning. Plowing on Priority 1 sidewalks and active transportation pathways will start tonight at 7:00 p.m.

There are no winter parking bans currently in effect.

Reminder: Curbside yard waste collection season ending

Winnipeg, MB – Residents are reminded that curbside yard waste collection for 2017 is coming to an end.

  • Yard waste collection in “area A” will end the week of November 13 - 17, 2017
  • Yard waste collection in “area B” will end the week of November 20 - 24, 2017

Residents can find out if their yard waste collection is “area A” or “area B” by:

City asks Winnipeggers to vote on more inclusive name for Handi-Transit

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg strives to provide equal and inclusive customer service to all its residents, and is inviting Winnipeggers to help select a new name for its Handi-Transit service that better reflects its commitment to these principles.

Handi-Transit asked its key stakeholders for their ideas and suggestions for a new name. Their suggestions were reviewed by the Policy Advisory Committee which narrowed the selection. The City is now asking Winnipeggers to choose from the following three options:

Eleven paramedics achieve the highest level of training available in Manitoba

Winnipeg, MB – At a graduation ceremony this morning, Mayor Bowman was joined by Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Kelvin Goertzen and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Chief, John Lane to celebrate the success of the City’s eleven new advanced care paramedics (ACP).

The graduates completed a challenging three-year program, offered by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) consisting of classroom, hospital and field training to achieve the highest level of paramedic training available in Manitoba.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service reminds residents of the dangers of carbon monoxide

Winnipeg, MB– With temperatures dropping, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is reminding residents to be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide and to purchase a carbon monoxide alarm. If you suspect carbon monoxide in your home, exit immediately and call 911.

Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, and tasteless gas that is a by-product of the combustion process. Dangerous accumulations of carbon monoxide can result from a faulty appliance, clogged chimney, inadequate venting or a buildup of engine exhaust.
