Public invited to information session on updates to Kilcona Park and Transcona Stadium

Winnipeg, MB – Many improvements and amenity upgrades have been completed or are being planned for Kilcona Park and the Transcona Stadium. On December 2, 2017 the public is invited to an information session to discuss the changes and to provide input.

Animal Services hosts Pet Photos with Santa

Winnipeg, MB – Give your pet a chance to share their holiday wishes! Santa will be at Animal Services for seasonal pet photos on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families without pets are also welcome to attend and can “borrow” an adoptable dog for the photo. Photos with Santa are $10 and are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and Winnipeg Police Service urge caution due to thin ice conditions on city waterways

Winnipeg, MB – As temperatures continue to drop, citizens are advised that thin ice conditions are present on Winnipeg waterways, including drainage ditches, culverts, streams, creeks, retention ponds, and rivers.

Parents and teachers are urged to speak to children and students about the dangers of waterways. The ice surfaces are thin and fragile, and falling into ice-cold water can be deadly.

Winnipeg Promise Marks Education Savings Week With New Initiatives to Improve Access to Post-Secondary Education Funding

Winnipeg, MB – The collaborative effort behind the Winnipeg Promise has led to new initiatives to assist families in accessing funding for post-secondary education, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today to kick off Education Savings Week this week.

Launched last year by Mayor Bowman, the Winnipeg Promise brought together local leaders across Winnipeg dedicated to finding ways to remove barriers currently preventing low and modest income families from accessing the Canada Learning Bond.

Changes to by-law enforcement coming November 20, 2017

Winnipeg, MB – Effective November 20, 2017, the City of Winnipeg will be enforcing over 600 by-law provisions under the Municipal By-Law Enforcement Act (MBEA). The City will also be responsible for screening, arranging for adjudications, and collections for these City by-law provisions. As part of this change, paying or disputing a penalty notice will be faster and more convenient than the old process.

Urban pooches bark for joy! Winnipeg's new Downtown off-leash dog park opens

Winnipeg, MB – Urban pooches and their owners have paws for celebration today as the City of Winnipeg officially opened the new Downtown off-leash dog park.

“It’s great to finally open Winnipeg’s first Downtown dog park,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Over the last five years, two thousand more people have chosen to make Downtown Winnipeg their home, and it is great to provide amenities Downtown that have traditionally only been found in other neighbourhoods across Winnipeg.”

Public invited to provide feedback on the Eastern Corridor Study

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg will be hosting a number of community workshops in November to discuss progress on the Eastern Corridor Study project, review potential alignment options, and present recommended evaluation criteria.
