Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Ross Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 12, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a two and a half storey rooming house in the 500 block of Ross Avenue. Once on scene crews encountered smoke coming from one of the suites and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 5:47 p.m.

Two individuals had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed on scene by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Stella Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:08 p.m. on June 11, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to multiple 911 reports of a fire in a vacant one-and-a-half storey house in the 600 block of Stella Avenue. Once on scene crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 10:39 p.m. The house sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Kylemore Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:52 p.m. on June 10, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 700 block of Kylemore Avenue. Once on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:09 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Ross Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 4:10 a.m. on June 10, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey, multi-family home in the 600 block of Ross Avenue. Once on scene crews encountered a fire on the exterior of the structure which was extending into one of the suites. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 4:37 a.m.

Crews evacuated one individual from the suite impacted by the fire. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service reminds residents to follow fire prevention strategies

Winnipeg, MB – With hot, dry conditions combined with high winds, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is once again reminding residents to follow important fire prevention strategies to reduce the risk of wildland, grass, and brush fires. In Winnipeg, these types of fires are typically wind-driven ground fires involving grass, brush, and dead plant matter which can spread quickly. Last year alone, WFPS fought 228 grass, brush, and wildland fires within City limits, many which damaged property and threatened structures.

Unique pilot coming to Living Prairie Museum

Winnipeg, MB – A flock of hungry sheep will soon call Winnipeg's Living Prairie Museum their temporary home.

A pilot program aimed at testing the feasibility of grazing sheep as a means of vegetation management begins Monday, June 10 at the museum, which is one of the few remaining areas still occupied by native tall grass prairie.

Public invited to provide input on taxi pre-payment pilot

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is inviting residents to provide input on an upcoming pilot that will require taxi passengers to pay a portion of their fare at the beginning of their trip, during certain days and times.

Passengers and industry stakeholders have identified fare disputes as a source of conflict and a top safety concern. The pilot will help the City determine if mandatory pre-payment could reduce conflicts between drivers and passengers.
