Winnipeg, MB – At 3:45 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a structure fire in a detached garage in the 900 block of McCalman Avenue.

When crews arrived, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, ensuring the fire did not spread to nearby homes. The fire extended to a trailer next to the garage. The fire was declared under control at 4:11 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a detached garage in the 200 block of Austin Street North.

When crews arrived, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:34 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Anderson Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 11 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey, single-family home in the 300 block of Anderson Avenue.

When crews arrived, they encountered light smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, quickly declaring the fire under control at 11:15 p.m.

All occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Elgin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:56 p.m. on January 3, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey vacant house in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the structure and launched an interior, offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 2:27 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the house and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two overnight house fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:42 p.m. on December 27, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 1300 block of Dawson Road South. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home and launched a defensive attack. Once flames were knocked down, crews transitioned to an interior offensive attack to complete the extinguishment of the fire. It was declared under control at 11:42 p.m.

Edmonton Street closed between Ellice Avenue and Qu’Appelle Avenue this Monday

Winnipeg, MB – Starting at 9 a.m. this Monday, December 30, Edmonton Street will be closed between Ellice Avenue and Qu’Appelle Avenue until 3 p.m., for building construction and maintenance work.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, and motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

Dublin Avenue from Orange Street to Field Street to temporarily close

Winnipeg, MB – The St. James industrial area is about to get a major facelift, with construction on the new Dublin Avenue Bridge at Omand’s Creek set to begin Wednesday, January 1.

The new infrastructure will replace the nearly 70-year-old wood and concrete bridge that has served the area since 1950 and is in poor condition.

To accommodate the bridge replacement and surrounding regional road work, Dublin Avenue, from Orange Street to Field Street, will be closed from 12 p.m. on January 1, 2020 through May 2020.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Agnes Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:21 a.m. on December 26, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 500 block of Agnes Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames. An interior attack was launched but due to deteriorating conditions crews were forced to exit the structure and transition to a defensive attack.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Furby Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:24 p.m. on Wednesday, December 25, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey multi-family building in the 400 block of Furby Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered flames and smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:39 p.m.

All occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported. No damage estimates are available. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
