Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on College Avenue and McDermot Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:13 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 300 block of College Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Firefighters used a Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression Tool (FST), an aerosol device that reduces temperatures, which allows safer access for firefighters. Crews then launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:25 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Cathedral Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:22 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 300 block of Cathedral Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:42 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Two patients were transported to hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

$3 Million COVID-19 Economic Support Grant Program will provide assistance to businesses and not-for-profit organizations

Winnipeg, MB – A $3 million grant program is being proposed as part of the preliminary 2021 Balanced Budget Update to assist Winnipeg small businesses and not-for-profit organizations ordered to temporarily cease operations or close their physically accessible locations by the provincial government’s public health orders that took effect on November 12, 2020. The program will be funded from the federal government’s Safe Restart Agreement.

Winnipeg, MB – The preliminary 2021 Balanced Budget Update proposes a six-year, $2.3 billion capital investment plan to renew existing City assets and build the new assets required as our city grows towards one million people.

Investments in capital infrastructure are critical to support a modern growing city, and they are also one of the most important tools available to government in support of businesses and jobs for local residents, especially during times of economic uncertainty.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Salter Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:22 a.m. on November 26, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant one-and-a-half-storey multi-family residence in the 200 block of Salter Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. A defensive attack was initially launched, but once some of the flames were knocked down crews were able to transition to an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 5:58 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Burrows Avenue and Hoka Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:19 p.m. on November 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, single family home in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered light smoke in the interior of the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 11:39 p.m.
