Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Martin Avenue West

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:43 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey home in the 200 block of Martin Avenue West.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the home. Crews launched a defensive exterior attack, until conditions allowed for an internal offensive attack. Crews declared the fire under control at 5:22 a.m.

Upcoming temporary closures: Des Meurons Street, Pioneer Avenue, and Graham Avenue

Winnipeg, MB –Three busy streets will close in the coming days to accommodate construction work.

Des Meurons Street, from Cabana Place to Deschambault Street, will be closed from 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 12 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 13 for sewer work.

Westbound Pioneer Avenue from Westbrook Street to Main Street will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, December 19 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 20 for crane work.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Cottonwood Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:10 a.m. on December 10, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a vehicle fire inside a commercial structure in the 900 block of Cottonwood Road.

When crews arrived on scene they found the fire had extended to the building, with heavy smoke and flames present. A defensive attack was initially launched until it was safe for crews to enter the structure. The fire was declared under control at 10:14 a.m.

All staff in the building safely self-evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:21 a.m. on December 9, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered heavy smoke and flames and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:56 a.m.

All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no damage estimates are currently available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Ellice Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:27 p.m. on December 7, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment block in the 500 block of Ellice Avenue. This is the same address where crews responded to a fire earlier that morning.

Last night, Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) members were first on scene and began the process of evacuating occupants from the building. Upon arrival of WFPS, there was heavy smoke in the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 11:55 p.m.

Preliminary 2021 Balanced Budget Update puts a focus on affordable housing needs in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB – Affordable housing is an ongoing need in the Winnipeg housing market. While the City of Winnipeg is not the direct provider of housing, all governments must play a role in supporting housing efforts. In addition to the recent Council approval of $12.5 million from the Federal Rapid Housing Initiative, the Preliminary 2021 Balanced Budget Update commits $2 million from the federal Safe Restart Agreement funding to further address the critical housing needs in our city.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Alfred Avenue and Ellice Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:17 p.m. on December 6, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey house in the 900 block of Alfred Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the residence. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 10:01 p.m.

Occupants were not home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
