Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Young Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 200 block of Young Street.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the structure. They entered the building and launched an interior fire attack. The fire was knocked down and declared under control at 4:29 p.m.

Residents were able to self-evacuate before WFPS crews arrived. A Winnipeg Transit bus was deployed to the scene to provide shelter. One person was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition.

The building sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. No damage estimates are available at this time.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team was deployed to assist displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The fire remains under investigation.
