Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Spence Street

Released: February 26, 2024 at 10:18 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:49 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-and-a-half storey, multi-family residence in the 100 block of Spence Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a well-involved fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.

Due to the heavy fire conditions, crews were unable to make entry to the building. They launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior, using an aerial ladder truck to apply water to the fire.

The structure sustained significant damage and is considered a complete loss, and an emergency demolition is being arranged.

WFPS crews will remain on scene into today putting out hotspots until the demolition process is complete.

No injuries have been reported and the fire is under investigation.
