Thirteen City-owned community centres will receive funding for renovations through the City of Winnipeg’s Community Centre Renovation Grant Program (CCRGP).
“This program underscores our commitment to supporting the heart of our neighbourhoods – our community centres,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “By investing in these renovation projects, we are not only enhancing the infrastructure of our community centres but also ensuring they remain busy and vibrant spaces for the benefit of all Winnipeggers.”
“Community centres offer so much for Winnipeggers, whether it’s through sport, recreation, or simply as neighbourhood meeting places,” said Evan Duncan, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Community Services. “We are pleased to be able to support these facilities, and the tireless volunteers who run them, through the Community Centre Renovation Grant Program.”
The community centres receiving grants totaling $836,739 are:
- Central Corydon
- Dakota
- Greendell Park
- Heritage Victoria
- Maples
- Notre Dame
- Red River
- Riverview
- Sinclair Park
- Valour
- Varsity View
- Winakwa
- Woodhaven
The program ensures that City-owned, board-run community centres can access much-needed assistance required to complete facility repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements, and renovation projects.
The program has two intake periods each year: a spring intake in March and a fall intake in October. Since the program’s inception in 2012, the City has invested over $16.6 million towards community centre renovations across Winnipeg.
