Winnipeg, MB – Beginning today, August 8, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) will be posting incident response information online, updated every 5 minutes. The information displayed is pulled directly from the department’s computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and includes details on the incident type, call time, units responding, neighbourhood, and Council ward.
The incident response information will be displayed on the webpage while the incident is active. The data will then be available on a comprehensive, historical database dating back to 2015, viewable via the City of Winnipeg’s Open Data portal.
With the introduction of the new online resource, the WFPS is discontinuing its participation in the PulsePoint app. PulsePoint provided users with real-time information about emergency service activity occurring within the city by sharing generalized location data, incident type and apparatus assignment – data that the City is now making available online.
The adoption of the app was proposed to have the potential to provide a great benefit to the community and residents by increasing bystander CPR response rates, improving CPR performance, and shortening time to defibrillation in sudden cardiac arrest events in public places. Since 2019 when the app was launched, the WFPS did not document any instances where a CPR-Alert was a factor in saving a life.
