New program will connect visitors with free expertise in maker and DIY arts
Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Public Library is seeking applications for its first Makers-in-Residence program.
The Makers-in-Residence (MiR) program connects library visitors with Winnipeg-based professional makers who have skills in visual/creative arts, digital media, music, and/or manufacturing using ideaMILL tools (such as sewing, prototyping, building) and are passionate about their craft. Two residency opportunities are available and will run at the same time.
During their terms, Makers-in-Residence will offer weekly drop-in sessions at Millennium Library’s IdeaMILL makerspace to mentor and offer their expertise to other Manitoba makers. Each MiR will also conduct three workshops for the public showcasing their craft, including one school mentorship workshop, and produce a final collaborative art piece, defined by the maker’s particular skill set and vision. This work will be showcased in-person and through digital displays at Millennium Library at the end of the term.
The Makers-in-Residence terms will run for 14 weeks from December 5, 2022 to March 31, 2023, with programming being delivered between January 9 and March 19, 2023. Applications are due on Friday, November 4, 2022. Indigenous peoples, women, racialized peoples, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples and Newcomers are encouraged to apply.
The Maker-in-Residence position is funded by the Government of Canada through its Commemorate Canada grant.
