Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Greenwood Avenue

Released: April 30, 2022 at 12:16 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 6:16 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow in the 0-100 block of Greenwood Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with smoke and flames coming from three sides of the building. The structural integrity of the house was also compromised. Due to safety concerns, they launched a defensive attack, hitting the fire from multiple angles and protecting exposures. The fire was declared under control at 6:59 a.m.

Occupants of the house self-evacuated prior to crew arrival and sheltered in a neighbouring residence. No injuries were reported.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to the scene to assist five residents in finding temporary accommodations.

While damage estimates are not available at this time, the house is considered to be a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
