Winnipeg, MB – At 4:53 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 100 block of Turnbull Drive.
When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the home. Due to safety concerns, crews were not able to access the fire offensively and launched a defensive attack using an aerial ladder and hand lines.
As the home is outside the City of Winnipeg water district, crews used a water tanker to shuttle water to the scene. Firefighters also contacted Provincial 911 to request additional water tanker support as part of a mutual aid agreement. The Ritchot Fire Department responded, delivering an additional water tanker to fight the fire.
Four occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Crews are expected to remain on-scene for an extended period of time addressing the fire. Local road closures are in effect and residents are advised to avoid the area.
The home has suffered extensive structural damage at this time to the roof and floors. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
