Winnipeg, MB – At 9:42 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey duplex in the 300 block of Parr Street.
Once on-scene, crews encountered a well-involved fire impacting multiple levels of the building. They launched an offensive attack and worked to protect exposures. Due to deteriorating and high-heat conditions, crews were forced to retreat and fight the fire defensively with an aerial ladder and hand lines. Once conditions improved, fire crews were able to transition to an offensive attack and continue knocking down the flames. The fire was declared under control at 11:48 p.m.
Crews remained on-scene well into the night conducting overhaul operations and addressing hot spots to ensure complete extinguishment of the fire. A fire watch was established to monitor conditions and prevent rekindling.
Five occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist five residents in fining temporary accommodations.
The duplex is considered a total loss, and no damage estimates are available at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
