Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Manahan Avenue

Released: March 6, 2022 at 8:51 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:39 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a commercial warehouse in the 1200 block of Manahan Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found a well-involved fire with smoke and flames coming from the building. Due to high heat and heavy smoke conditions, crews were unable to enter the structure. A defensive attack was launched using aerial ladders and handlines.

Crews remain on scene at this time. It is expected operations will continue into tonight. The below-freezing temperatures are creating challenging conditions. Crews are being rotated in and out of operations as required to provide them with breaks from the cold. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time, but the structure is expected to be a complete loss due to severe fire, smoke, and water damage.
