Released: March 6, 2022 at 6:16 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:04 a.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, mixed-use structure (hotel and bar) in the 0 to 100 block of Keewatin Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke in the building. A fire was located in the ceiling space and an offensive attack was launched. The fire was declared under control at 6:59 a.m.

While most individuals in the hotel self-evacuated, crews assisted those who needed support. No injuries were reported.

A Winnipeg Transit bus was deployed to the scene to provide shelter to the evacuees. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services attended the scene to assist approximately 15 displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental. No damage estimates are available.
