Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this morning.

Burrows Avenue Fire

At 4:11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, the WFPS was alerted to a fire in a house-under-construction in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue by on-duty Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) officers.

Upon noticing the fire while on patrol in the area, the WPS officers called for the WFPS and then attempted to use a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames. When WFPS arrived at the scene, crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 4:40 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Wordsworth Way Fire

At 8:22 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey duplex in the 100 block of Wordsworth Way.

When they arrived at the scene, crew encountered smoke coming from the residence. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 8:49 a.m. Damage was contained to the duplex unit where the fire originated.

Occupants of both duplex units self-evacuated prior to the arrival of WFPS crews. One individual was assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical failure. Damage estimates are not available at this time. Residents from the undamaged unit will be able to return home once crews complete their work on scene.
