Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Mountain Avenue and Kelvin Boulevard

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.

Mountain Avenue Fire

At 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue.

When WFPS crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke and fire coming from a suite in the building. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:05 a.m.

A number of occupants were evacuated and provided shelter aboard a Winnipeg Transit bus that was deployed to the scene. Most were able to return once their suites were safe for re-occupancy. No injuries were reported.

Fire damage was contained to the suite of origin. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Kelvin Boulevard Fire

At 2:21 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey residential house in the 300 block of Kelvin Boulevard.

Upon arrival at the scene, crews found a well-involved fire. Crews initiated a defensive strategy using water streams from the exterior of the building and an aerial ladder. The fire was declared under control at 5:19 a.m.

The house was not believed to be occupied at the time of the fire. Residents of a neighbouring house were advised of smoky conditions and sheltered in place while crews monitored conditions. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
