Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Smithurst Street and Speers Road

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to fires on Smithurst Smithust Street and Speers Road tonight.

Smithurst Street Fire

At 7:52 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire at a two-storey townhouse complex in the 0-100 block of Smithurst Street.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames were coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 8:17 p.m.

Residents of the suite where the fire originated safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. Residents in neighbouring suites were temporarily evacuated but were able to access their suites once crews completed their work on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Speers Road Fire

At 7:02 p.m. WFPS responded to reports of a fire inside a three-storey industrial building in the 0-100 block of Speers Road.

When crews arrived on scene they found a small fire in a machine hopper and quickly knocked it down. The building’s sprinkler system had activated, helping to keep the fire from spreading.

Occupants from the building safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
