Winnipeg, MB – At 8:34 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire inside a two-and-a-half-storey, single-family home in the 500 block of McAdam Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully involved in flames and fire had spread to a neighbouring two-and-a-half-storey, single-family home. Crews launched a defensive attack on both homes using aerial ladders and water streams. Once some of the flames were knocked down, they were able to transition to an interior, offensive attack to complete extinguishment of the fire. The fire in both homes was declared under control by 10:14 p.m.
Two occupants of one home self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. They were treated on-scene by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. A search of the other home was completed and no occupants were found. Crews located two dogs in one of the homes. One was deceased and the other was able to be reunited with its owner. Paramedics also assessed one firefighter on scene for a heat-related condition. No transportation to hospital was required. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
