Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on College Avenue

Released: July 12, 2021 at 8:35 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:35 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a home in the 600 block of College Avenue.

When crews arrived, smoke and flames were visible. Firefighters launched an offensive attack, but deteriorating conditions required them to switch to a defensive exterior attack while protecting neighbouring homes from fire exposure. When safe to do so, crews switched tactics back to an offensive interior attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:36 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. Paramedics assessed one firefighter on scene and they were transported to hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
