Winnipeg, MB – At 8:45 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single storey home in the 800 block of Kernaghan Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, there was smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack using thermal imaging cameras to locate the fire. The fire was declared under control at 9:13 p.m.
All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. Paramedics transported one person to hospital in stable condition. A rabbit was located deceased inside the home.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to assist residents in finding alternative accommodations until the home is safe for re-entry.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
