Winnipeg Public Library provides contactless holds pickup and return service

Released: May 12, 2021 at 2:22 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Public Library will begin providing contactless holds pickup and return service at all 20 branches beginning Thursday, May 13, 2021, including at the newly renovated Cornish Library.

Service at the library branches will be for holds pickup and return services only. Customers will not have access to enter the branches.

The province’s public health orders announced on May 7 advised that libraries were to close. In an effort to ensure we were satisfying the spirit of the public health orders, the decision was made to close all our library branches and suspend our holds pickup service. Following discussions with provincial officials, it was determined that we could provide contactless holds pickup service.

Library customers are reminded that holds may be placed using the library’s online catalogue or mobile app. Library staff are available to assist customers with this process through Winnipeg Public Library’s Ask Us service. Customers will receive an email or phone call when their items are ready for pickup. Customers can phone the library when they are parked outside of the branch or on their way to the library. Library staff will check out and place customers’ materials at the holds pickup tables located outside each library’s front entrance.

Holds pickup will be available during normal hours of operation at each branch. Library staff and customers are required to wear masks. External book returns will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
