Winnipeg, MB – At 8:11 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 0-100 block of Colindale Cove.
When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:51 a.m.
No injuries were reported and no damage estimates are available.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire originated in a wood-burning chimney. Homeowners are reminded to have wood-burning fireplaces, woodstoves, and chimneys cleaned and inspected annually by a qualified professional. Fires can occur when stray sparks or high temperatures ignite creosote build-up in a chimney.
