Winnipeg, MB – At 1:23 a.m. on January 12, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey, multi-family home in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue. WFPS was first notified when Winnipeg Police Service general patrol officers noticed heavy flames and smoke coming from the building and assisted with evacuations from the burning building before WFPS crews arrived.
When WFPS crews arrived moments later, there were heavy flames and smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 2:21 a.m. All occupants safely evacuated. Paramedics assessed multiple patients on scene, but no transportation to hospital was required.
Winnipeg Transit buses were dispatched to the scene to provide temporary shelter for evacuated occupants. The City of Winnipeg Emergency Social Services was deployed to the incident to assist occupants in finding temporary housing supports.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
