Released: January 10, 2021 at 4:21 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a severed gas line at a City of Winnipeg construction site at Regent Avenue East and Day Street. An excavation crew from the City’s Water and Waste Department had been working at the site.

When crews arrived on scene, there was a strong smell of gas in the area. With the help of the Winnipeg Police Service, Regent Avenue East at Day Street was closed in both directions while crews took gas readings in the surrounding area. Manitoba Hydro ensured the leak was safely venting into the atmosphere.

Manitoba Hydro is working to repair the leak. No injuries were reported. No evacuations were required and gas was not detected in any surrounding buildings.
