Winnipeg, MB – Fifteen City-owned community centres will receive funding for renovations through the City of Winnipeg’s Community Centre Renovation Grant program (CCRGP).
“The importance of community centres has been evident this year, as we have all missed the activities, programs and togetherness they offer,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “As we move into a new year, I’m pleased that 15 of our existing centres will be getting the renovations they need to make these spaces accessible and updated, so Winnipeggers can enjoy them for many years to come.”
“Community centres build vibrant communities, and I’m looking forward to the day we reopen and enjoy using them once again,” said Sherri Rollins, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “These renovation grants will benefit current and future patrons of the centres.”
The community centres receiving grants are:
- Bord-Aire
- Burton Cummings
- Chalmers
- Greendell
- Luxton
- Norquay
- Notre Dame
- Oxford Heights
- Ralph Brown
- Sturgeon Heights
- Valley Gardens
- Valour
- Varsity View
- Whyte Ridge
- Woodhaven
The CCRGP received 17 applications requesting a total of $1,320,943.70, during the 2020 fall intake period. Fifteen (15) applications totaling $1,120,943.70 were approved.
The program ensures that City-owned, board-run community centres can access much-needed assistance required to complete facility repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements, and renovation projects. The grant allows them the ability to set programming priorities.
The program has two intake periods each year: a spring intake in March and a fall intake in October. Fall 2020 was the eighteenth application period for the program. Since the program’s inception in 2012, the City has invested $8,926,624.99 towards 195 community centre applications for renovations across the city.
