Released: September 3, 2020 at 2:19 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is reminding residents that the 10 Open Streets (Enhanced Sunday/Holiday Bicycle Routes) will remain open until September 7, 2020, after which time only the four Sunday/Holiday Bicycle Routes will remain in effect on Sundays and holidays only.

Beginning on Sunday, September 13 until Monday, October 12 the following routes will limit motor vehicle traffic to one block from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Sundays and holidays:

  • Lyndale Drive – Cromwell Street to Gauvin Street
  • Scotia Street – Anderson Avenue (at St. Cross Street) to Armstrong Avenue
  • Wellington Crescent – Academy Road (at Wellington Crescent) to Guelph Street
  • Wolseley Avenue – Raglan Road to Maryland Street

Signs are posted on all approach roadways as notification that motorists are entering a Sunday/Holiday Bicycle Route. Signs are also posted at the end of the routes advising motorists that they are leaving the designated route. Barricades will be placed at the beginning and end of the routes to remind motorists that vehicle through-traffic is limited to one block on these routes. A violation of the Sunday/holiday bicycle route rules as outlined in the Traffic By-law may result in a fine.

It is important to note that these roads are not closed. Cyclists are reminded to use caution and continue to follow the rules of the road, and pedestrians should not walk on the roadway.

Open Streets public engagement ongoing
Residents can still provide input until September 7 to help inform recommendations on the potential implementation of Open Streets in the future, for Council’s consideration. For more information and to complete a survey, please see: winnipeg.ca/walkbike2020.
