Released: September 2, 2020 at 4:44 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – A City of Winnipeg employee in the Public Works Department has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee, who primarily works in areas to which the public does not have access and who does not have a public-facing job, is self-isolating as per provincial health guidelines.

For privacy reasons, we will not be releasing further details regarding the employee or their condition. The City wishes the employee a safe and speedy recovery.

Coworkers who may have come into contact with the employee and considered to be at a high risk of exposure were sent home and instructed to get tested for COVID-19 and self-isolate. Enhanced cleaning protocols of the areas and equipment the employee came into contact with have been implemented.

The City is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our residents and employees, and have instituted a number of protocols and procedures at our facilities to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

We continue to have employees and visitors self-screen before visiting our facilities, and we installed hand sanitizer stations, installed plexiglass barriers at public service counters, as well as introduced enhanced cleaning protocols, including the disinfection of high-touch areas. We continue to promote important health and safety practices including frequent hand-washing and social distancing. In addition, face masks became mandatory in City-operated facilities and vehicles, including Winnipeg Transit and Winnipeg Transit Plus on Saturday, August 29.
