Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Provencher Blvd

Released: February 20, 2020 at 11:55 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:18 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a commercial building in the 100 block of Provencher Blvd.

When crews arrived, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, but deteriorating conditions forced crews to switch to a defensive attack, fighting the fire from the building’s exterior with aerial ladder trucks. Crews deployed the WFPS drone for situational awareness.

Residents in the area who are experiencing smoke conditions should remain indoors with their windows closed.

Paramedics transported five nearby residents and one bystander to hospital, all for smoke inhalation and in stable condition.

Provencher Boulevard will remain closed to traffic between Tache Street and Aulneau Street while crews complete their work on scene. Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

This incident is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
