Winnipeg, MB – At 2:31 a.m. on January 15, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, single-storey duplex in the 600 block of Alfred Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home and launched a defensive attack. Once fire conditions improved, crews were able to transition to an interior offensive attack to complete the extinguishment of the fire. It was declared under control at 4:15 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the home and no occupants were found. Two neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. While damage estimates are not available at this time, the house suffered extensive fire, smoke, and water damage.
