Search for Winnipeg’s Next CAO to Pause Until After the Conclusion of the Multiyear Balanced Budget Process

Winnipeg, MB – The search for Winnipeg’s next CAO will be paused until the conclusion of the multiyear balanced budget process, Mayor Bowman announced today.

“We thank Harris Leadership Strategies for their work in gathering potential candidates as we search for a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO),” said Mayor Brian Bowman.

After the request for proposals process closed in April, Harris Leadership Strategies was selected as the consultant to assist with the recruitment process. Specifically, the consultant was tasked with conducting a search to source a pool of candidates for the position of CAO. A pool of candidates was compiled and a shortlist was created by the consultant.

When the consultant met with the recruitment committee to present the pool of candidates, the recruitment committee was concerned with the lack of diversity among the recommended pool of candidates. With the multiyear balance budget process at the halfway point, the decision was made to pause the search process until after the budget process concludes in March.

The recruitment committee will meet again to determine next steps which will include seeking out a new national recruitment consultant to resume the search for Winnipeg’s next CAO.

The recruitment committee thanks Harris Leadership for their efforts toward sourcing candidates for the recruitment our next CAO.
