Winnipeg, MB – At 5:55 p.m. on December 4, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant three-storey apartment complex in the 400 block of William Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the structure and launched an interior, offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 6:42 p.m.
Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available. However, the structure had suffered significant damage from several previous fires over the past two years.
Traffic in the area will reopen once crews complete their work. Drivers should exercise caution in the area as the significant amount water used to fight the fire has covered the road creating icy conditions. City of Winnipeg crews will be monitoring the area and applying sand and de-icing agents as necessary.
