Winnipeg, MB – At 2:02 a.m. on November 17, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of fire in a two and a half storey multi-family house in the 200 block of Austin Street North. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 2:51 a.m. The house suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.
Occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews after hearing the smoke alarm. Paramedics transported two of the occupants to hospital – one in unstable condition and one in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
At 8:39 a.m. on November 17, 2019, the WFPS responded to reports of fire in a two-storey motel complex in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under controlat 8:57 a.m.with damage contained to a single suite.
Crews searched the structure and located one individual who was declared deceased on scene. All other occupants of the motel had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One firefighter sustained an injury while on scene and was transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
