Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two morning fires

Released: November 8, 2019 at 10:36 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:50 a.m. on November 8, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of an industrial fire in a tire recycling plant in the 1400 block of Dublin Avenue. Once on scene, crews determined there was fire burning inside of a large silo which was partly filled with rubber and salt. The fire was contained with no risk of it spreading to nearby piles of tires.

Crews worked to cool the silo with water streams until it was deemed safe to open access hatches on the silo in order to hit the fire directly with water. The fire was declared under control at 8:53 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are currently available.

Crews will remain on scene for the next several hours to complete their work, ensuring all hot spots are extinguished.

At 7:22 a.m., WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two and a half storey home in the 400 block of Langside Street. The structure had previously been damaged by fire. Upon arrival on scene today, crews found light smoke coming from the home. They launched an offensive attack and by 7:37 a.m. had the fire declared under control.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are currently available.
