Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Langside Street, Ashern Road and William Newton Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:03 a.m. on November 3, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) received a report of a fire in 2.5-storey, single-family home in the 400 block of Langside Street.

When crews arrived, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the windows of the house. Crews launched an offensive attack while protecting neighbouring homes from the spread of flames. The fire was declared under control at 9:19 a.m. The home sustained extensive fire and water damage. Two neighbouring homes sustained minor damage.

All occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Two neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. Those occupants are expected to be able to return to their homes once crews complete their work on scene.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Ashern Road Fire
At 2:47 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of smoke in a single-family home in the 0-100 block of Ashern Road. When crews arrived, they encountered an exterior fire causing damage to the interior of the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:23 a.m.

All occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Two dogs were located during primary search and reunited with their owners. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

William Newton Avenue Fire
At 10:12 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a motor home parked in the 300 block of William Newton Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered flames coming from a motor home. Crews launched an offensive attack, quickly declaring the fire under control at 10:29 a.m. Neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, and occupants will be able to return to their homes once crews complete their work on scene.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
