Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Magnus Avenue and Pritchard Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:31 a.m. on October 10, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a garage in the 1500 block of Magnus Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered a fire in the garage, and power lines that had fallen in the area. Manitoba Hydro was advised. Crews launched an offensive attack, very quickly declaring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.

At 10:37 a.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-family home in the 1600 block of Pritchard Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the roof of the home and power lines that had fallen in the area. Manitoba Hydro was advised. Crews launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 11:16 a.m.

All occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to crew arrival and no injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest both fires were caused by downed power lines that had fallen on the buildings. No damage estimates are available.
