Winnipeg, MB – At 1:47 a.m. on October 1, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey house in the 500 block of Ross Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the house.
Crews initially launched an interior offensive attack but deteriorating conditions forced them to exit the structure. They transitioned to a defensive attack until it was safe to once again enter the house and fight the fire offensively. The fire was declared under control at 4:43 a.m. The house suffered significant damage.
Crews conducted a search of the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported. A neighbouring home was evacuated as a precaution. Those occupants are expected to be able to return to their home once crews clear the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
Ross Avenue was closed to traffic between Isabel Street and Sherbrook Street but has since reopened.
