Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to Kate Street Fire

Released: September 12, 2019 at 9:15 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:33 a.m. on September 12, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two and a half storey multi-family house in the 0 to 100 block of Kate Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered a well-involved fire. Due to the heavy fire conditions, a defensive attack was launched. Once some of the flames were knocked down, crews were able to transition to an offensive attack, entering the structure to complete extinguishment of the fire. It was declared under control at 4:15 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the building and no occupants were located. A neighbouring rooming house was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Those residents were able to return to their home after the fire was out. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
