Winnipeg, MB – At 4:57 p.m. on September 5, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 200 block of Fountain Street.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found several occupants leaning out of second floor windows. Crews raised ground ladders up to the windows and rescued four occupants. Simultaneously, an offensive attack was launched at which time firefighting crews located one additional unconscious occupant inside the structure. The individual was brought out of the building and cared for by paramedics on scene before being transported to hospital in critical condition. One additional occupant was assessed on scene but did not require transport to hospital. No additional injuries were reported.
The fire was declared under control at 5:49 p.m. Most occupants of the building are expected to be able to return to their suites once firefighters complete their work on scene later this evening.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
