Winnipeg, MB – The sidewalk located on the east side of the St. Vital Bridge will be closed as early as Saturday, July 6, to accommodate a large scale repair of a sewer main. Sidewalk access on the west side of the bridge will be maintained.
Pedestrians should cross the street before the bridge. Cyclists should be prepared to share the road or look for alternate routes on the City’s bike map.
City of Winnipeg employees have been monitoring the sewer main, which runs under the St. Vital Bridge, for several months and have determined that the main needs to be replaced. Replacing this sewer main will help us protect our rivers and lakes, and help us satisfy our Environment Act Licence requirements.
Replacing the sewer main will require us to run temporary pipes on the east sidewalk of the Bridge. As a result, the sidewalk needs to be closed to ensure the safety of residents.
This work will take at least 18 months to complete. There may be times when lanes on the bridge may be closed to traffic to accommodate the work.
