Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Knowles Avenue Fire

Released: June 15, 2019 at 1:12 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:12 a.m. on June 15, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single- family bungalow in the 2500-block of Knowles Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered a well-involved fire which had burned through the roof of the home.

A defensive attack was launched due to the risk of the structure collapsing. Two WFPS tanker trucks were used to supply water as the property lies outside of the City of Winnipeg water district. Crews expect to remain on scene into the afternoon ensuring all hotspots are extinguished.

No occupants were home at the time of fire. Both neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. One WFPS member sustained a minor injury and was assessed by paramedics on scene. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are available but the home is expected to be a complete loss.
