Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Messier Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:41 p.m. on May 7, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in an industrial business in the 500 block of Messier Street. Once one scene crews encountered smoke emanating from a large pile of shredded automobile by-products, inside a three-sided structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 12:14 a.m. A front end loader was used to move the debris in order to access hot spots.

All staff members in the building safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The fire did not extend to the structure. Damage was limited to the scrap car product. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
