Winnipeg, MB – Between 2:03 and 2:28 a.m. on April 30, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to four separate fires in the area around Battery Street. The first fire involved a garage and the second involved debris next to the garage which crews were able to knock down before it extended. The other two fires involved vehicles.
All four fires were very quickly knocked down. No injuries were reported. Multiple simultaneous fires so close together are considered suspicious and have been brought to the attention of the Winnipeg Police Service. No damage estimates are currently available.
The WFPS reminds residents of some important arson prevention strategies they should follow:
- Dispose of garbage, yard waste, lumber and bulky waste (such as mattresses or couches) properly and promptly.
- Keep all garbage, bulky waste and firewood well away from your house or garage.
- Store flammable material safely.
- Install motion activated lighting in your rear yard and on garages located along rear lanes.
