Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Water Rescue

Released: April 29, 2019 at 9:45 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:32 a.m. on April 29, 2019, WFPS crews responded to a report of an individual being swept away in the Red River. Responding crews located the individual, who was staying afloat by holding onto a log, in the area of Waterfront Drive. At 6:47 a.m. the individual was brought to safety.

Paramedics transported the individual to hospital in stable condition. It is not known how long the patient was in the water, or how they came to be in the water.

Residents are reminded that waterways and the banks surrounding them are not safe. With elevated river levels, water is fast moving and unpredictable. Parents and teachers are reminded to speak to their children about the importance of staying away from all waterways.
